34 weeks 6 days

Exactly 34 weeks and 6 days ago our beautiful babies were born. This is a milestone for us since that's how long they made it before being born as well. Pat always says that they were my babies then and his babies now. I guess this means that after today we'll have to share them. I just can't believe that tomorrow they will be 8 months old! In some ways it seems like just yesterday we were at the hospital wondering how this crazy journey would pan out. Now it's 8 months later and we're still trying to figure out the answer! As I posted yesterday, all of the babies gained some weight over the past month. Katie gained the most as usual- I think this is most likely since she's the only one not teething at the moment (and she LOVES food!). Her count is still at 4- 2 on top and 2 on the bottom. Helena also gained quite a bit of weight this past month. She's still the smallest and still in size 2 diapers even though the other 2 are in size 3. We're almost to the point where all 3 of them are wearing different size clothes too. I guess being a triplet doesn't mean anything when it comes to how fast you grow. Helena has 2 teeth- both on the bottom, but she's been drooling and chewing her hands and every ones faces like crazy so I have a feeling she's got a few more on the way. Seamus only gained 3 ounces this past month. He also has been teething like crazy so we've seen lots of drool and lots of spitting up. Only one tooth to show for it so far though! His acid reflux medicine doesn't seem to be working as well for him as it does for the girls, so I have a feeling we may need to up the dose or change it at our next appointment. I guess as long as he's gaining something I'm not going to worry about it too much. Besides, that boy never stops moving. He's still not "real" crawling yet but he scoots, army crawls, and rolls like a champ! He even sat up on his knees today and just sat there without holding on to anything. He also pulls himself up on us, not on furniture yet, thank goodness. Seamus' biggest accomplishment though, happened today at dinner. He held his bottle all by himself for the first time! We were soooo proud! Of course the girls have absolutely no interest in holding theirs (the lazy lumps!), but Seamus was an all-star! We'll see if we have a repeat performance anytime soon. We can hope! Here's a picture of him being a big boy and holding his own bottle.

Snow Babies!

Pat and the babies in our room at Boyne

Clay and Katie playing "grape coffee." Don't ask... I don't get it either!

Floor time at Boyne

Helena the Bed Hog

This weekend Pat and I took the babies up to Boyne Mountain for our annual family ski trip with the GCU. It's about a four hour drive and the babies did awesome both going there and coming home! We only had to stop once each way for lunch. It was our first experience taking them so far away from home and for a whole weekend. Stopping at fast food places to feed 3 babies was a little crazy but we made it work. We were actually a big hit at the McDonalds we stopped at in West Branch! The weekend went pretty well even though it was so cold that we didn't get to actually spend any time outdoors. We did get to see the slopes from our hotel windows and got to hang out with Grandma at the lodge. Drew and Clay were their too so the babies got to spend some time with their cousins. The only drawback of the whole weekend was Helena refusing to sleep in her Pack and Play. Since we were all crammed into one room we couldn't let her just cry or else she would have keep her brother and sister up too. She ended up getting to sleep with me the first night and with Pat the second since we had 2 double beds in our room. She was in heaven...Pat and I were in some sleep deprived fog. Who would have thought that such a little thing could be such a bed hog!
Yesterday the babies went for their monthly dose of their RSV shot. We should be getting closer to the end of those. (I hope!) Their current weights are:
Katie: 19 lbs 8oz
Seamus: 17 lbs 14oz
Helena: 15 lbs 11oz

The older they get the more spread out in size they seem to be. I'm just happy that Katie is still over 2 lbs away from out-growing her car seat. I really don't want to have to change to the stationary seats until the spring. It's much easier to strap them in and carry them out to the car, even if our arms do feel like they're breaking with every added ounce! I will post more updates tomorrow... for now I need to work on getting to sleep. Helena decided she wanted to play from about 3:30am-5:30am last night!

Official "Phantom Tooth" Retraction

The big news today is that the phantom tooth that only Mary could see in Seamus' mouth became an actual tooth today. Imagine that (sorry Mary)! After the babies had a good day of eating and taking a Long afternoon nap, we went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Murphy, where we got to sing to Aunt Shari on her birthday. There's not much more to say, I just posted yesterday. The pictures are of babies getting dressed today after spending all day in their pajamas yesterday. Katie had to wear her Christmas present from Grandma and Grandpa before she grew out.

Baby it's Cold Outside

This week has been an exciting week for all of us. The temperature has dropped very low so Mary and I immediately started hoping for Cold Days to get out of work. The babies had their Uncle Tim, Aunt Robin and their cousin Conner come to visit on Wednesday. They were kind enough to give us some Amish bread (which we pounded down in approximately 15 seconds) and Conner played with the babies and their toys. Our cold day finally came on Friday and it was great to have the day off to spend with some babies. Since we were home, we made a special discovery...Helena cut her first tooth! Now we are waiting for her to catch up to her sister's 4 teeth and wonder if Seamus will need to get fitted for dentures because his teeth do not seem to want to come in. Friday we also had an appointment to get their helmets checked. Seamus went first and our helmet fitter was very pleased with his noggin's progress, and he got his helmet expanded for his growing head. Next Helena got measured and it seems if we are lucky she may graduate from her helmet at our next doctor's appointment, she is near to perfect in her measurements! Next Katie went and she got her helmet adjusted and we learned that she too had made tremendous progress as her head has gone through a 1/2 " of correction. She thinks that Katie and Seamus may still need a couple more months of helmet time. Today Seamus had some tummy problems, we think he may have a virus or be teething (Mary found a phantom tooth) or both. He seemed to be better by the end of the night. We hope he gets better soon and all the babies feel okay by our trip to Boyne next weekend. The pictures are from Uncle Tim, Aunt Robin and Conner's visit and the other one is from today when all the babies decided to show off how they all can sit.

Sleepover

Pat and the babies trying to be "quiet" at 7am

Pat and I were brave this weekend and took the babies for their very first sleepover. We went up to my parents other house and spent the night with Grandma and Grandpa on Saturday. We figured it would be a good thing to practice since in less than 2 weeks we are going away for the weekend to Boyne Mountain. All in all it turned out pretty well. We had a nice dinner, a fire, and lots of play time on their nice big floor. They even slept pretty well in their pack and plays. Helena was put in their walk in closet in the bedroom and anyone who knows Helena knows why! The rest of us were all in Grandma and Grandpa's bedroom too. Thanks again for letting us kick you out of your own bed! It was kind of like being in a hotel room which is what we'll be in at Boyne. The only real problem we had was when Katie had a MAJOR blowout in her diaper!! She's been fighting a stomach virus for the last week or so. At least that's what we think it is. She ended up getting her very first bath in a real bath tub because she was covered from head to toe in, well you can fill in the blanks... We were up at about 6 the next morning and Grandpa cooked us breakfast after the babies ate. Thanks so much for putting up with the lack of sleep and uncomfortable pull-out couch. We'll have to do it again soon!!

Back to work and Big News for 2009!

Pat and I are back to work this week. No more Christmas vacation which really stinks, but I'm counting the days until our next vacation so I guess that might help me make it through. On the home front, we have big news in the world of Ms. Kathryn Murphy! She officially has 4 teeth! Two on the top and two on the bottom. No teeth for Seamus or Helena yet so she's all alone in "teethville." The top picture shows a few of them if you look really closely. Katie also is now a 2009 graduate of physical therapy! No more seeing Ms. Heather once a week. We're going to miss her but I have to say that I will not miss going there every week. We have been going once or twice a week since August so it will be nice to have our afternoons free again. Seamus is done wearing his TOT collar (hopefully for good!). He hasn't really been tilting much anymore and wearing it during feeding times had been making him gag so we're taking a break from it. The second picture is our pinwheel of babies from the first day back from vacation. Grandpa actually survived too!
